Stevenson & Lochhead Welcome Move By SNP Councillors To Protect Banffshire Bus Service

Banffshire & Buchan Coast SNP candidate Stewart Stevenson MSP and Moray MSP Richard Lochhead have backed moves by local SNP councillors to protect the 309 Buckie to Keith bus service which is considered to be under threat due to council cutbacks.

The service is the only direct public transport link between the Buckie area and Keith, including the railway station, as well as forming an element of the town service for Keith. Benefits claimants from Keith also use the service to get to the Job Centre in Buckie.

Commenting, Mr Stevenson said:

“I am pleased that SNP council colleagues on Moray Council have made a commitment in their alternative budget to retain this service.

“I understand that it provides a vital link between the two towns, particularly in terms of access to the rail network. As someone who frequently uses the bus to get to Aberdeen Station when I’m travelling to Parliament from my Constituency Office, I know how useful having a direct bus link to the railway can be. I hope that the administration group on Moray Council will follow the SNP lead and retain this service.”

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead added:

"My Moray SNP Councillor colleagues have published their budget alternative budget proposals this week and I know that having listened very carefully to the concerns of the public they propose to retain the Buckie/Cullen/Keith bus service.

"This is an important service and that has been recognised by SNP Councillors."
