North-east MSP and SNP candidate for the Banffshire & Buchan Coast Constituency Stewart Stevenson MSP paid a visit to the Royal Mail Sorting Office at Buckie on Saturday.
Mr Stevenson’s visit was postponed from Christmas due to the severe weather when he was due to visit to see the Christmas mail operation. Instead, Mr Stevenson visited at the weekend and made a special delivery of his own – a bottle of Scottish Parliament whisky which he presented to the Buckie posties to thank them for their efforts during the wintry weather.
Mr Stevenson was welcomed by Delivery Office Manager Mr Kevin Fairweather.
Commenting afterwards, Mr Stevenson said:
“It was great to meet the hard-working Royal Mail postmen and women at Buckie Delivery Office and to see at first hand just how much effort they put into delivering for people all year round, but particularly at Christmas.
“Indeed, it was very apparent during the recent severe weather that Royal Mail staff pulled out all the stops to ensure the mail got through while private delivery companies based outwith Scotland simply stopped taking orders in case they could not fulfill them. I think that speaks volumes about the commitment of Royal Mail staff and why the Conservative Government in London should think again about their privatisation plans.
“Our Posties do such an important job all year round but particularly at Christmas and I’d like to thank them for their efforts on behalf of the communities they serve.”
