Voters in some Buchan villages have been left confused after Royal Mail delivered election leaflets for both Aberdeenshire East and Banffshire & Buchan Coast to the same addresses in error.
Electors in Cruden Bay, Hatton, Longhaven, Longside, Fetterangus and Strichen – all of which are now in the new Aberdeenshire East Constituency – received election mailings from Stewart Stevenson, candidate for Banffshire & Buchan Coast, in addition to literature from Alex Salmond, who actually is the candidate for Aberdeenshire East.
Election Agent for Banffshire & Buchan Coast SNP Cllr Stephen Smith said:
“This is an unfortunate error but is in no way the fault of the local posties, who have been very helpful in sorting this out.
“Royal Mail centrally appear to have supplied the local sorting offices with incorrect information on where exactly the new boundaries are. But after the SNP pointed this out to them, they have been very quick to take action to ensure the correct leaflets for all political parties are delivered in the correct constituencies.”
The villages of Cruden Bay, Hatton, Longhaven, Longside, Fetterangus and Strichen, as well as the rest of Central Buchan, which were all formerly represented by Stewart Stevenson as MSP now move into a new constituency called Aberdeenshire East where First Minister Alex Salmond is the SNP candidate.
Mr Stevenson is the SNP candidate in the new Banffshire & Buchan Coast constituency which takes in Boddam, Peterhead, St Fergus and Crimond and follows the coastline all the way round to Buckie.
