LABOUR PARTY HAS RUN OUT OF PEOPLE
The Labour group at Holyrood were in crisis today (Sunday) after the party’s inner turmoil was revealed in a series of damaging newspaper articles.
The Sunday Post reports that Labour MPs have no faith in the ability of their new MSP colleagues and are lobbying to be allowed on regional lists so they can be “part-time” MSPs from the next Holyrood election.
The Sunday Herald reveals that the leadership election to find a replacement for Iain Gray is in shambles with a conclusion to the contest now looking unlikely before next Spring – despite Mr Gray’s pledge to go this Autumn.
Commenting, SNP MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse Christina McKelvie, who deafeated Labour front bencher Tom McCabe in May said:
“The Labour group at Holyrood is in deep trouble – they have obviously run out of people.
“Many of their most experienced politicians lost their seats to the SNP because of their negative election campaign, which offered nothing to the people of Scotland. Labour took the electorate for granted and now they are paying the price.
“The notion that Labour Westminster MPs could enter Holyrood as ‘top-up’ MSPs is insulting both to the Scottish Parliament and to their own Labour colleagues.
“Labour are still all over the shop after their disastrous Holyrood campaign. They can't even sort out a simple leadership election, never mind offer a positive agenda for Scotland."
